BACKGROUND:
When the Grateful Dead descended on Egypt’s Nile Valley in 1978 to perform 3 landmark concerts at the foot of the Great Pyramid in Giza, legendary promoter Bill Graham called it, “one of the greatest experiences of my life.” Counterculture icon and author Ken Kesey described it as “the latest Rocking of the Cradle of Civilization.” The day after the last of the trio of shows, which took place during a rare lunar eclipse, the Egypt-Israeli Peace Treaty was signed. This extraordinary new 2-CD/1-DVD set relives this halcyon convergence of history, sound, and sphinx with ROCKING THE CRADLE: EGYPT 1978, featuring over 3 hours of music remastered in HDCD to sound more cosmic than ever.
